Shout out to Microsoft for being part of the fight!
A friend tagged me in a post on LinkedIn earlier that was a blog post by Microsoft chief digital safety officer Courtney Gregoire.
A friend tagged me in a post on LinkedIn earlier that was a blog post by Microsoft chief digital safety officer Courtney Gregoire.
The blog post was regarding new research illustrating the online risks and value of safety tools to keep kids safer in the digital environment.
Part of the blog post discussed the results of their latest survey “Global Online Safety Survey 2023: Parents’ and Kids’ Perceptions of Online Safety”
The numbers are truly terrifying to me, 69% of those surveyed (16,000 teens, parents & other adults) had experienced some form of online harm over the preceding year. That number is far too high, especially as this was not exactly a small sampling as you might see in some surveys.
There are a lot more figures in the report that go to a very granular level regarding the use of parental control platforms and other metrics, but I wanted to call out the fact that young people are still regularly being targeted online and there is very much a need to not only educate the children but also adults.
The blog post does contain some excellent advice and guidance on how to help protect your children which I will post below for ease but also would suggest you read the post yourself!
I just wanted to call out the fact that there are people within the larger tech organisations fighting the good fight for your kids and they are giving out great advice that can really help you to protect your kids.
